FAQ
What if it doesn't work?
Open a Website Bug ticket in our Discord and we'll take a look. Include any error message you saw and roughly what you were doing.
It's taking a long time to patch.
The first patch is the slow one — Necroid has to decompile and recompile your Project Zomboid install. After that, future updates should be much faster.
Is it safe? Windows SmartScreen popped up!
The builds on this site are produced by the Wasteland team and we stand behind them. SmartScreen flags new, unsigned executables until they build reputation — that's expected for a small project like this. As always, keep your antivirus up to date and exercise the same caution you would with anything you download.
Does this replace Steam Workshop mods?
No. The mods bundled with the launcher are java mods, managed by the Necroid PZ Java Mod Manager. They tweak parts of PZ that Workshop mods can't reach — fixing the weather flashing bug, the radio static issue, adding zoom levels, and other small quality-of-life tools. Your Workshop mods keep working as normal.
It's Optional — But Recommended
You can still join Wasteland the old way. The launcher is here to make the boring parts (mod installs, queueing, log gathering) painless — not to replace anything you already do.
Most players find it worth the install: the java mods are great, queue management is easy, and the debug tools save real time when something goes sideways. Try it for a session and see for yourself.
